WORDS OF WISDOM FROM THE TRACK PROMOTER / OWNER

First of all...take a deep breath!  Whether you come out for a race on Friday night or Saturday night, our team here at the SpeedBourne Bradford Speedway is here to help!  If you don't have a knowledgeable friend with you, I'm sure you're confused.  So here are some hints.

First of all, the SpeedBourne Bradford Speedway is overflowing with entertainment opportunities--even for those who aren't race fans.  We get a big crowd--and big crowds bring a party-like atmosphere.  That's why we say the SpeedBourne Bradford Speedway is the "Greatest Show On Dirt!"  Some fans come for the racing--but others attend for the party!  Our pre-race party runs from 5pm to 7:30pm and always features quality live music from local performers.  And when the racing action gets underway at 7:30pm, it's like a three-ring circus at the racetrack thanks to our trackside promotions for the crowd!  Our official Track Mascot, Ronnie The Racing Rooster, is available for photos with the kids and also leads the crowd in our nearly world-famous version of the "Chicken Dance."  Another popular promotion is “Movin’ On Up.”  In this promotion, the SpeedBourne Bradford Speedway Trophy Girls randomly select a family with lousy bleacher seats to have the opportunity to “Move On Up” to the best seats in the house—the Owner’s Suite in the SpeedBourne Bradford Speedway Luxury Boxes.  This promotion happens while Weezie Jefferson from the 70s TV Show “The Jeffersons” sings “Movin’ On Up.”  The SpeedBourne Bradford Speedway is receiving national recognition for the quality of its trackside promotions.

The SpeedBourne Bradford Speedway also offers some great food and beverages along our award-winning "Fair Midway."  Check out the "Speedway Grill" for some great food.  And don't miss the Walking Tacos and Deep-Fried Pretzels!  And our bathrooms are also located in this area.

Let's talk about the racing--and give you some tips to make the most of your experience.  Unlike many sporting events, the best place to watch a race is from a seat high in the grandstand.  The front-row isn't usually the hot ticket.

The natural clay racing surface at the SpeedBourne Bradford Speedway is prepared all week in hopes of producing a smooth and dust free speedway.  But Mother Nature can make that difficult.  Before the races you'll see our fleet of water trucks trying to keep the surface wet, but high winds and a bright sun can win the battle even though we'll dump 15,000 gallons of water on the track on raceday.  While usually we have an exceptionally dust-free facility, here's a hint to avoid "dust in the face": look at the USA Flag along the backstretch and relocate to an area where the wind is not blowing into your face.

If (and only if) the track prep allows it, the evening's program will begin with practice for all classes.  Unlike races you might see on television, our racers at the SpeedBourne Bradford Speedway will get less than ten laps to practice--and that's ONLY if the track surface can handle the extra laps.  Since they don't get hours of practice, they have to make their decisions on the car set-up very quickly.

The drivers qualify for the main "feature" events by running a "qualifying heat race."  On a weekly basis, the heats are lined up by a handicapping system that starts the drivers having a good season in the back of the field.  The number of heats in each division determines how many car qualify directly to the main "feature" event.  Our track announcer will inform you what that number is.  In most cases it is the top four or five finishers.

Those that fail to qualify from a heat race go into a consolation event.  These races are lined up by how the driver finished in the heat.

The weekly main events are also lined up with the top runners toward the back, making it exciting for the fans.  The line ups are based on handicapping points.  The only exception is that the drivers who qualify from the consolation start at the rear of those who qualified in the heat races.  During the early laps of the feature, keep an eye on the top cars moving to the front.  They don't have 500 miles to accomplish this challenge!

After the final race, when all cars have returned to their pit area, our track security will open the pit gates to enable you to literally "go into the locker room" to meet the drivers and pit crews.  Just be careful, the cars can be hot!

If you enjoy your evening at the SpeedBourne Bradford Speedway, please tell your friends.  If you encounter a problem, please tell me or one of our team members.  We are all dedicated to making our track the best facility in grassroots auto racing!
