Hoop Schaible - Jeff's Uncle

It's been a lot of years since I was in Upper Black Eddy, Pennsylvania.  Back in the 1950s and 1960s, the little town's most famous (or infamous) resident was Robert "Hoop" Schaible, my uncle.  Hoop was so named because he caught Whooping Cough as a child--the name stuck even when he won modified track championships at both the Flemington Fair Speedway and Harmony Speedway--beating out modified greats Frankie Schneider, Al Tasnady, and Sammy Beavers, among many other legends.

Flemington Fair Speedway and Harmony Speedway, both New Jersey tracks have been closed, and Hoop passed away on December 22, 2005, but one of the key reasons why I continue to work to promote the Bradford Speedway is because of racing memories with my father and brother.  I'm working so that Bradford Speedway race fans can make memories with their families--that's why we do what we do.

Maybe the photos of Hoop's Orange #95 car brings back some memories for you.  And up until recently, there was an excellent website about Hoop Schaible and the Upper Black Eddy gang at www.HoopSchaible.com.  That website no longer exists...but if anyone wants to provide additional information to me (email me at jeff@andrulonis.com), I'd be glad to share it.
